Recorded history is often incomplete.  That certainly is the case with stories of the African Americans who came to California during the Gold Rush era.  In fact, there were over 5,000 African Americans in the gold fields in the 1850’s.  Voices of the Golden Ghosts – African Americans in the California Gold Rush by Mark Oliver, examines a fascinating array of characters.                                                     Join me on Write Stuff in a discussion with Mark Oliver as he shares with us stories from Voices of the Golden Ghosts and describes how it has evolved into a theatrical event that continues to be performed here in Northern California.
