Time, what even is it
If I Had the Hand Of God - Julia Jacklin, it's on her album, her fourth, The Gem, a late September arrival.
Coast To Coast - Twerps, from 2011, the song was on their self-titled debut album.
Odd Couple - Bagful of Beez, it's a single from their new album, In Parallax. The single came out in August but the album showed up in late September. It's the first BoB album as a band - Link Meanie (aka Lindsay McLennan), who also has a band called the Meanies, made a solo BoB album, Do Androids Dream of Electric Beatles, in 2021.
What's That Sound - Snout (while we're on the subject of guys named McLennan), led by Ross McLennan (see above for his brother, Lindsay, aka Link), it's the title track of an album they put out in 1994.
Kool Aid On the Rocks - the Sacred Cowboys, it's on their album In The Manifesto, which came out in March. Sacred Cowboys have been around since 1982, off and on, more of a musical collective than a band.
Memories - the Blackeyed Susans, from their album All Souls Alive, recorded in 1993 but now released on vinyl for the first time; it will be available in October. And did someone mention revolving doors? Bands featuring former members of the Blackeyed Susans could put on a three-day music festival - and sell it out.
Into the vault
In 1968 Australian band Python Lee Jackson went to England, as so many Australian bands did in those days, in search of fame and fortune, where they recorded an album titled In A Broken Dream. The title track and two others were written in 1969 by the band's piano player, David Bentley, but he didn't think he could sing them well enough so producer John Peel asked Rod Stewart to come in and sing the songs with the band. The recordings weren't released until 1970. It's been reported that Stewart was paid a set of car seat covers for his work. The entire album is very good but we've given you just the Rod Stewart tracks this week:
- Doin' Fine
- The Blues
- In a Broken Dream
