One for the Deadheads - seeya, Bobby.

With the passing of Bob Weir, it's timely to recognize the influence he had individually and as a member of the Grateful Dead. This week we're playing music that evokes that influence, even if only in our imagination.

They started as folkies

Nick Charles - his song Fool’s Gold was on his 2015 album The River Flows.

Begging Bowl - Geoff Achison, recorded in 2011 and released as the album Live At the Burrinja Cafe, which is in the small Victorian town of Upwey.

No Lookin' Back - Rockwell T. James, from his 1977 album A Shot of Rhythm and Blues. His civilian name was Ronnie Peel and he was in several successful bands, including the Missing Links and the La De Das.

Bob and the band loved country music

Bill Jackson - Jerilderie, the title track to an album he released in 2011. Over the years Jackson has written several songs about renowned Aussie bushranger Ned Kelly. Jerilderie is a tiny town in New South Wales, which was raided by Kelly and his gang in 1879.

Let Me At the Night - Ben Mastwyk, the title track to his 2025 album.

Maybe She's In the Next Town - Junior, a 2002 release, the album titled Restless.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are Dead fans

Sad Pilot - from their album Flight b741, a 2024 release.

Straws In the Wind - from the album K.W., one of their 2020 releases.

No Body - from Changes, one of their 2022 albums.

Go long

Rose City - the Silversound, an all-star group led by guitarist producer Shane O'Mara. It's a track from an album on its way in 2026. The Dead loved nothing better than improvising a five-minute song into a 20 minute adventure.

The Real Thing - Kate Ceberano and friends, Mahalia Barnes and Nikka Costa, from a 2021 benefit broadcast. It's their version of the Russell Morris 1969 single.

Long Long Ago - The Sand Pebbles, from their 2011 album Dark Magic

Dom Mariani and the Majestic Kelp starts us off, moves us along, and tells us when we're done. Check out their 2003 album Underwater Casino.
