First up this week is an artist that needs no introduction. Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter Herb Alpert continues his life long mission  of providing terrific music. There is no limit to what he has accomplished in his career. I was pleased to see the young lady that stopped by our station for an interview for our program a couple of years ago, the very talented Jazz pianist and vocalist Sarah McKenzie, be invited to perform at Vibrato, Herb Alpert’s jazz club in Bel Air, Los Angeles in June. Sarah’s performance was very well received and she was booked for another successful performance this past September 20th.

Getting back to Herb Alpert, at age 87 he just released a brand new album September 30th, Sunny Side Of The Street. From this great new album, I am playing the trumpet of Herb Alpert with Pata Pata.

Pianist Carol Albert began establishing herself as a smooth jazz mainstay in 2017. She has unique trademarks of writing and recording songs that both chronicle and express her own emotions and thoughtfully reflect upon the world around her. Albert suffered through a time of extreme difficulty with the death of her husband and that time of her life was reflected in her hit albums Fly Away Butterfly and Stronger Now.  October 7th Albert released a great new album titled Magic Mirror.  From that album I have the keys of Carol Albert with Sol Ipanema.

Veteran saxophonist Kim Waters has been an integral part of Smooth Jazz almost clear back to its beginning. He released his first album in 1989 and has now released 26 albums. His daughter pianist Kayla Waters has also recently been charting Billboard number ones.  On October 7th Kim Waters released the album That Special Touch. From that album, I have the keys of Kayla Waters joining the saxophone of her Dad Kim Waters on their cover of Adele’s smash hit Go Easy On Me.

Samara Joy, originally from the Bronx, is a rapidly ascending jazz vocalist. This  young singer attracted a good deal of attention in 2019 after winning the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. She appeared on the Today Show earlier this year and recently Samara made her glowing, auspicious debut at the Newport Jazz Festival, earning multiple standing ovations in the process. September 16th she released her sophomore album Linger Awhile.  I have a vocal from the soon to be famous jazz singer Samara Joy with the song Guess Who I Saw Today.

Thank you for your continuing support of KKRN and of this program.
