This week I will look at the career and music of guitarist Nick Colionne.

Nick grew up in a household full of music - and at age 9 he began to learn guitar from his stepfather, Edward. He quickly developed his ability and had just had too much talent to be held back. By the age of 15 he turned pro, touring all over the world with famous artists and bands. Because he was usually the youngest band member, he would sometimes paint a mascara moustache on his upper lip to make himself look older.

However as well as his music career was progressing, his mother wasn't about to let her son get away without an education, so she saw that  Nick graduated from high school, went to college, and became a teacher and mentor of elementary-school students in Elgin, IL. when he wasn't touring. He has been honored for his work with young people most notably winning the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award for his continuing efforts in mentoring children and also for his work with breast cancer causes.

This  award is especially prized  as it was named in memory of  Wayman Tisdale, a one time basketball great with the Sacramento Kings,  a really fine smooth jazz bass guitarist, and an exceptional human being that passed away from cancer far too young and is greatly missed.

Nick Colionne blazed a trail to the top ranks of today’s smooth jazz stars. He has developed an unmistakable sound and vibe that is instantly recognizable and he takes the guitar to unexpected places. Nick Colionne’s charismatic stage presence, combined with his guitar virtuosity, and rich baritone voice make him a very popular performer.

In 2016 Nick Colionne released an unparalleled album titled The Journey. Previously the record in smooth jazz for billboard number one songs from one album was three. Nick’s album produced two number ones in 2016, two more in 2017 breaking the previous record, and then shattered the record with a fifth number one in 2018.

Nick Colionne just released on April 27th his latest album Just Being Me. I have been playing songs on our new releases page from that new album the past few weeks and will play another tonight later on.  I will also play at the end of this program the title track, the first number one, from Nick Colionne’s record setting album The Journey.

I will play Billboard’s top three songs in smooth jazz this week.

Our new releases page has songs from new 2018 albums from Michael Paulo, Basia, Nick Colionne, and Vincent Ingala.

The second hour starts with a terrific duet from Ray Charles and Diana Krall. Then we will hear Threestyle, Mark Etheridge, Pamela Williams, Pieces Of A Dream, Euge Groove, Peter White, Paolo Rustichelli, The Rippingtons, Rick Braun, Paul Brown, Chuck Loeb, Warren Hill, and Norah Jones.

The conclusion will be the title track from Nick Colionne's album The Journey.
