Share Tweet Email

This week’s look at artists will focus on the group Hiroshima,  a group that has been highly successful for now over 40 years and is still very active. Formed in 1974 by Dan and June Kuramoto the band fused Japanese music with other forms of world music including American with a wide variety of percussion and wind instruments, synthesizers, bass, guitars, keyboards, and drums. They created a musical sound like nobody else. Instantly successful, this group has attracted a huge following throughout the years. Hiroshima served as as an opening act for the 1990 tour of one of the most influential and acclaimed jazz musicians in the history of jazz, trumpeter Miles Davis. Included in this program is an Original song that Hiroshima wrote for the movie Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier. I hope you enjoy the music from this outstanding group.

I will play Billboard’s top three songs in smooth jazz this week. We have a new number one this week.

Our expanded segment featuring the absolute latest in smooth jazz, includes all brand new 2018 releases not previously played on this program. We have a double listen from one of the hot rising young stars of smooth jazz, 26 year old tenor saxophonist Vincent Ingala from his album titled Personal Touch just released on April 27th . The reason behind the album title is that he also plays the drums and guitar and did all his own instrumentation on this album. Other new releases are from the keys of Smooth Jazz pioneer Dan Siegel, guitarist Adam Hawley with guest saxophonist Dave Koz, and the trumpet of Greg Adams and his group East Bay Soul.

In the second hour we have Diana Krall, Wes Montgomery, Warren Hill, Rick Braun, Philippe Saisse, Gerald Albright, Peter White & Boney James together, Dave Koz, Brian Culbertson, Jonathan Butler, and Mindi Abair.

This week’s closing song will be my very favorite song from this week’s featured group Hiroshima..
